That Kid

Moving isn’t always easy for someone like me who’s shy and introverted, but I’m not going to tell you my reasons why I don’t trust these so-called humans. Devin was my first friend, and some might say that we were like brothers. I started school at Stadium High in mid spring, I recently moved up to Tacoma Washington from Oregon because my dad’s work had him moving around a lot. In Oregon I wasn’t that cool kid that everyone liked, I was more like “that kid”. Coming into a new school I didn’t really expect much go to class, study and head home. I felt like it wasn’t necessary to make new friends because, in the end, I would always have to leave. There was a part of me wanting to gain a friend but all the chance that I get, I blow it.
First bell rang; I quietly sat at an empty chair near the exit door. I was trying to conceal my present from others so that other students wouldn’t come up to me. The homeroom teacher came in through the door, putting his things near his computer. He looks up and smiles and softly says,
“We have a new student that will be joining us for the rest of the year, Drew will you come up and introduce yourself?”
“Uhh. Ok.”
I introduced myself to my classmates, everyone wasn’t really paying attention to what I was saying, I skimmed the classroom and notice one of my classmates was intrigued. I started to trail off and the words that came out of my mouth had just became a mumble of jointed words. I just stood there, pale and silent.
“and…you know… So yeah.”
Then I quickly head towards my seat and stared at my desk, while taking a deep breath. I turned my head towards the right a little, looking at that person who was giving that warm vibes. It was the person that sat next to me. Tall, muscular, and good looking. I thought to myself “Hmph, looks like he plays football or something, but why does he seem so nice?”
“Hey, you’re the new kid.”
“Oh, uh. Yeah.” “. . ..”
“I saw you walking around the halls, what’s up, I’m Devin, nice to meet you”,
He reaches out for a handshake, with a smile on his face.
“What should I say? I don’t want to blow it again, quick Drew say something funny”
“PEANUTS” I shouted
“Uhhh, Yeah.  I’m allegoric to peanuts” I whispered
“HAHAHA, you’re funny. Let’s be friends” Devin said

I hoped out of the bus and walked towards my house. The place that we just moved into was peaceful, I usually pause a moment a take in the air and enjoy the scenery. Back in Oregon there wasn’t much to take in, we lived in the ugly part of town and everything smelled like rotten eggs, maybe because every day when I walk out of the apartment there was a big dumpster next to the entrance. I looked up at the sky and prayed, “god please, no more moving, I finally made a friend, make this be it”.
I walked inside the house and notice that my mom was cooking,
“Hey Drew, how was school today?”
“It was good, I think I made a friend today.”
“Ohh that’s nice, you should invite him for dinner tomorrow”
“Yeah, maybe! I’ll ask him”
I quickly ran upstairs with a smile on my face, this was the first time any of my friend is coming over for dinner.
